Practical roommate safety

Safety tips before you commit to a room

RoomYaar helps people connect, but every roommate decision should include basic verification, clear terms, and traceable payments.

Meet before money changes hands

Use an in-person visit or a video call to confirm the room, roommate, and basic details before sending any payment.

Never wire deposits to someone you have not met

Avoid wire transfers, gift cards, crypto, and urgent payment requests from people who refuse to verify themselves.

Keep payments traceable

Use payment methods that create receipts or records, and keep written confirmation of rent, deposit, and move-in terms.

Verify identity

Check names, profiles, school or employer context when appropriate, and make sure the person can show they are connected to the listing.

Trust your instincts

Pressure, inconsistent details, refusal to video chat, or deals that feel too good to be true are reasons to slow down.

Report suspicious listings

Send the listing URL, screenshots, and a short explanation to hello@roomyaar.com so the RoomYaar team can review it.

How to report a concern

Email hello@roomyaar.com with the listing link, the account or contact details involved, screenshots if available, and why the post seems suspicious. RoomYaar may review, remove, or restrict listings that appear unsafe or misleading.
