About this policy

This Privacy Policy explains how RoomYaar (RoomYaar, we, us, or our) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and services (the Service). RoomYaar is intended for users in the United States. By using the Service, you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

Account and profile information such as your name, email address, login credentials, and profile details; listing content such as photos, city and approximate location, rent, room details, and preferences; messages and support requests you send; and usage and device information such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and similar log data collected automatically. If paid features are enabled, payment details are collected and processed by our payment processor, not stored by RoomYaar.

Where information comes from

We collect information directly from you when you create an account, post a listing, or contact us; automatically from your device as you use the Service; and from providers you choose to use, such as Google when you sign in with Google (we receive basic profile information like your name and email).

How we use information

To create and manage your account; publish and manage listings; help users connect and message each other; send service communications such as new-message notifications, security alerts, and account or policy updates; provide support; detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and safety issues; improve search, features, and performance; and comply with legal obligations.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies, session tokens, and similar technologies to keep you signed in, secure your account, remember preferences, and measure and improve performance. Some are essential to the Service; you can control non-essential cookies through your browser settings, though blocking some may affect functionality. We do not use cookies for cross-site advertising.

How we share information

With other users as part of the Service (your listing, profile name, and messages are visible to the people you interact with). With service providers that help us operate the Service under contract, such as hosting, image storage (for example Cloudflare R2), email delivery (for example Resend), sign-in (for example Google), map tiles, and payment processing (for example Stripe) if enabled. When required by law or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or RoomYaar. And in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

We do not sell your personal information

RoomYaar does not sell your personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under US state privacy laws. We share information only as described in this policy.

Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and thereafter as needed to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Protect your account by using a strong, unique password and keeping your credentials confidential.

Your choices and rights

You can review and update your account and profile information, edit or remove your listings, and delete your account at any time. You can opt out of non-essential emails using the controls in those emails or by contacting us; we will still send essential service messages related to your account and security.

US state privacy rights

Depending on your state (for example California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Utah), you may have the right to know or access the personal information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to obtain a portable copy, and to opt out of any sale or targeted advertising (RoomYaar does not engage in these). You also have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights, and in some states to appeal a decision. To exercise a right, email hello@roomyaar.com; we will verify your request and respond within the timeframes required by law. You may use an authorized agent where permitted.

Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact hello@roomyaar.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Third-party links and services

The Service may link to or rely on third-party websites and services that have their own privacy practices. We are not responsible for those practices, and we encourage you to review their policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the Last updated date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
